Title: Techno-Economic Assessment of Centralized and Decentralized Secondary System Architectures in Breaker-and-a-Half Substations
Keywords: Breaker-and-a-half, Centralized architecture, Decentralized architecture, Secondary system, Techno-economic analysis

Abstract: To achieve higher reliability, large system substations are often designed with switchyard configured in a breaker-and-a-half scheme. In practice, such substations are typically implemented with a centralized organization of the secondary systems for measurement, control, protection, and signaling. Nevertheless, technical solutions with decentralized secondary system architectures are also applied in certain cases. This paper aims to compare both approaches from a techno-economic perspective.
