Title: The Impact of Demographic Factors and Population Prediction in the Western Balkans Using Machine Learning Methods
Keywords: Decision Tree, Demographic Factors, Machine Learning, Population Prediction, Western Balkans

Abstract: This study explores demographic factors and applies machine learning models to predict WB6 population. Key factors include low fertility, youth emigration and rapid aging causing long-term decline. Utilizing historical data (1960-2021), models including Linear Regression, Polynomial Regression, Support Vector Regression and Decision Tree were applied. The Decision Tree achieved the highest accuracy of 99.41%, predicting the WB6 population to decline from 17.15M in 2021 to 13.81 M by 2045(∼ 3.34 M decrease, -19.5%). Findings contribute to regional planning and public policy.
