Abstract: A simpleall-opticaltechniqueforfixingthespectrumoftheoutputfromsemiconductorlaserata chosen absorptionatomiclineisrealizedandstudied.Thetechnique,whichisnotofalaserlocking type, usesaconventionaldiodelaserwithoutanyinfluenceonitsoperation.Forimplementationofthe technique,thediodelaseroutputisfedtoamodifiedMichelsoninterferometer,andcontrollable disturbingofphaseandamplitudecorrelationbetweentheinterferingbeamsinthetwoarmsofthe interferometerisachievedbyfrequencyscanningthroughacontourofareferenceabsorptionlineofa substanceintroducedinoneofthearmsoftheinterferometer.Itisshownbothbyexperimentand theorythat,underproperlychosenconditions,thespectrumoftheobtainedlightisfixedattheatomic line andhasalinewidthcomparabletothelinewidthoftheusedabsorptionline.
