Abstract: nergy efficiency together with user satisfaction are the two major considerations in the contemporary lighting systems. Satisfying these considerations is only possible through lighting control. The current paper presents a lighting control system which operation is based on genetic algorithm optimization. The objective of the optimization task is the maximum use of the natural daylight, thus making the need of complementary artificial light minimum. At the same time the lighting control system is designed so that it meets the occupants' lighting preferences. The hardware of the proposed system consists of simple controllers and allows both on/off lighting control and dimming of the light sources. Also for assuring correct operation of the lighting control system, the implementation of two photo sensors is considered-one for measurement of the vertical illuminance and another one for measurement of the horizontal illuminance outdoors.
