Abstract: The study presents a concept for micro hydropower system that uses hydrokinetic energy of river flows. The design is based on crossflow turbine with vertical axis. This concept is developed to be applied as "in stream"hydropower system, especially for rivers. It is initially developed using virtual prototyping techniques and a physical prototype is designed. Major focus is set on physical prototype testing using experimental channel. Obtained test results from physical prototyping are to be used further for virtual prototype adjustment.
