Title: Study of the possibilities for using methane as a transport fuel through biomass gasification process
Keywords: transport fuel, methane, gasification

Abstract: Current paper focuses on the possibilities for production of methane through gasification of biomass and further use as fuel in transport equipment. The aim of the research is to produce methane as a final product through gasification of waste wood biomass. The presented installation is a large scale facility where the amount of input raw material of 12,900 tons is consumed, and about 890 tons of methane is produced. The calorific value of the obtained synthetic natural gas is estimated as high - 5 700 kJ / Nm3. The own needs of the installation are equal to 10 to 15% of the total final energy produced. In addition, the use of biomass as a feedstock has a significant positive environmental impact - the amount of carbon emissions generated will be reduced by about 80% compared to the use of diesel fuel. In conclusion, it can be said that the methane obtained from the gasification of biomass can be used as an alternative fuel in engines such as: Otto gas, gas diesel and pilot injection
