Abstract: This contribution focuses on the analytical and finite element modelling of the thermo-mechanical behaviour of a friction-pendulum bearing device for passive seismic isolation. Influences of some crucial factors, such as the magnitude and the rate of change of the sliding velocity, the weight of the superstructure, and the rise in temperature on the force-displacement relationship characterizing the isolator, are studied. Numerical results obtained for a realistic testing protocol (plausible value of the applied normal force and sliding velocity) are presented.
