Abstract: Investigation results are presented for determination of the dynamic thermal response of an iron-cored winding under AC mode of operation. Both power losses Pw in the copper coil volume and Pc in the ferromagnetic core volume are considered for a 2-RC elements thermal equivalent scheme. Attention is specially focused on the role of the thermal resistance between the winding and the core. Solution for the circuit dynamic thermal response is presented together with the corresponding expressions for the existing in the solution constants. Results are compared with a sample experimental data-for a transformer winding incorporated within a standard core EI 120x40.
