Title: Controlled friction clutch for hybrid propulsion mechanical system with kinetic energy accumulator
Keywords: hybrid drive line, friction clutch, kinetic energy storage

Abstract: The paper presents an idea to use the friction clutch as a continuous variable transmission in a mechanical drive line for hybrid vehicular systems with kinetic energy storage. A widespread solution is to capture the mechanical energy during braking modes, followed by its storage and consequent release during acceleration or cruising modes. Mechanical recuperation systems based on kinetic energy storage (KES) are considered as a promising alternative. The simplest design of such systems suitable for retrofits is considered, which incorporates a friction clutch between KES and drive wheels. An analytical solution in closed form for the necessary clutch kinematic transfer function is obtained based on equation of motion in case of inertia energy source and loads, and a numerical example for short-term recupeartion system with KES is shown.
