Title: RFID Electronic Sensor System for Rolling Stock Recognition in Motion

Abstract: This paper is a next step of building a system for monitoring and control on rolling stock in motion - Checkpoint System for the needs of the National Railway Infrastructure Company in the Republic of Bulgaria. The implementation of the system ensures a high level of train traffic safety and prevention of railway incidents [1]. The basic function of the system is identification of a passing vehicle (locomotive or wagon) by its unique 12-digit number. The chosen approach uses radio frequency identification (RFID) because of its substantial advantages in comparison to the optical system. A model and a prototype of real RFID system have been developed and scientific experiments and investigations have been carried out. A sound financial and technical analysis of the deployment of the system in railway network of The Republic of Bulgaria is made. The analysis is based on the technical requirements, functions executed from the local sensor units and architecture of the complete system over
