Title: The “artificial” short circuit in the input of the electrical devices realizing overcurrents protection
Keywords: overcurrents, closed circuit protection, electronic switch (

Abstract: This paper is addressed to the overcurrent protection of electrical devices. It is realized by the “artificial” short circuit in its input. Appearing of the overcurrent in electrical devices, especially electronic ones, resulting in elements’ failure of the protected unit, is described. In this case, the damage may grow uncontrollably if the power supply is not cut off. The solution by a short circuit in the inputting power supply is realized by a fast-acting group (including either diac + thyristor groups or diac + triac group etc.), is proposed. Thus, the switch-off time of the supply voltage is less than 100 microseconds. For both the traditional fuses and automatic circuit-breakers this time is of a higher order. After detailed analysis the parameters of the necessary control signals are determined. The signal supplies the fast-acting group that realizes the protection.
