Title: LED Transmitter for Plastic Optical Fibers
Keywords: plastic optical fiber, LED, digital systems, N-channel JFET,

Abstract: Abstract: Light emitting diodes (LED) are optical transmitters, radiating light in the visible range for plastic optical fibers and finding wide application in automation of technological processes both in industry and building automation. Optical signals are usually emitted by LEDs in the visible range by either laser diodes with lens or collimated lasers. This paper presents the results from experimental studies of a new scheme of an optical transmitter, using a LED, radiating light in the visible range. The aim of the conducted studies is to prove the possibility for transmitting numerical and analogue broad-band signals by using plastic optical fibers. Analysis of both the transient processes and the frequency properties of the transmitter have been made. An equivalent circuit of the optical transmitter, suitable for simulation studies, has been developed. The transient characteristics of the LED transmitter have been shown for operation in a pulse mode. By using an N-channel JFET
