Abstract: In this paper, criteria for optimal calculations of clutch diaphragm springs are derived. An optimization model with two independent sizing design variables was employed to seek the optimal design scheme with the target of minimum difference of the diaphragm spring clamping force between new and old conditions of the friction disc and the minimum of the maximum bending stress, which must not exceed the yield limit. It is proven that the criterion for the clutch compliance, connected with reaching the minimum manipulation power, must be used. At the final, an optimal solution of the problem in a considered example is gained.
