Abstract: The present paper is a review of the different possibilities and benefits of the application of VFDs with asynchronous electric motors with supply voltage 6 kV, driving process equipment in thermal power generation plants. The underlying advantages in terms of increased efficiency and flexibility are shown in comparison with the throttling methods of control of the water and air flows. The installation and the startup of VFD 6 kV 4.0 MW on a boiler water feeding pump on three generation units in Thermal Power Plant "Varna" JSC is given as an example
