Title: Study of physical model of WECS with synchronous generator and back-to-back converter
Keywords: Back-to-back converter, Electronic converters, Maximum Power

Abstract: The paper presents the results from development and experimental study of a physical model of a direct driven wind energy conversion system (WECS) with synchronous generator (SG), connected to the grid via a back-to-back converter. The control is a combination of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm, maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) strategy with field oriented vector control (FOC) for the generator, and voltage oriented vector control (VOC) for the grid-side converter. The proposed power control scheme is applied on a test bench with DC motor, synchronous generator and electronic converters. The complete control software is implemented on dSpace DS1104 platform. The developed control system is validated by various experimental studies. The results show the good performance of the control under steady-state and variable wind speed conditions
