Abstract: The paper presents a study of a magnetic system, designed to treat a hard disk in order to destroy the information stored on the magnetic medium. The magnetic field is modeled using the finite element method and the distribution of the magnetic flux density is analysed for different system geometry and number and ways of connection of the exciting coils. The results obtained from simulation modeling, corresponding to systems with different design, could be used for determination of the parameters of the magnetic system for ensuring effective treatment of a hard disk located in its air gap
