Title: Application of the activity sampling method for cost optimization of lighting in logistics sites
Keywords: Energy saving potential, Illumination levels, Indoor localiz

Abstract: The market for lighting controls in industrial buildings and logistics sites has changed and expanded significantly in recent years. In industrial environments with conventional lighting control, illumination is usually left on permanently, regardless of whether activities are performed or not in the area. This leads to unnecessary energy expenditure. In this work the Activity Sampling (AS) method is proposed for estimation of energy saving potential. The design and the implementation of the AS study are presented in detail. According to the proposed solution after the AS study, illumination levels in the different logistics areas are controlled depending on the presence or absence of persons or vehicles in the corresponding areas. The implementation of the localization system utilizes the Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) of a ZigBee-based sensor network and fingerprinting positioning algorithms
