Abstract: Various energy storage means are presented with their main characteristics (capacity, price, time constant …) and their part in the world energy storage repartition; we focused our attention on hydro-pumping storage systems. The energy storage is necessary to control the equilibrium between production and consumption. The specific problem of electricity supply in islands is presented. We simulated the behaviour of an electricity production and transportation system integrating various levels of renewable energy systems and close to the Corsican electrical network. A hydro pumping system using various turbine and pump powers and several water capacities was introduced in the electrical system in view to improve the electricity balance and to increase the part of the renewable energy production in the total energy system.
