The examined flywheel is part of a system for autonomous emergency power and acts as kinetic battery. Any power loss in this component has direct impact on the product's cost of ownership. This requires looking for an optimal combination of rotating mass and idle rotational velocity at certain power output of the unit. This is done in order to achieve minimal losses (mainly due to friction) and maximal durability of the bearing units. References Issue
