Title: EV fuse design cost reduction based on Thermal-Electric Conduction analyses

Abstract: The focus of the study is set to evaluate design change which is modification of terminals of the EV fuse from L-type to axial type as well as modification of forming element material. Main target is to decrease cost of the product by shortening terminals and, mainly, by minimizing Ag material volume for cladding element. This is done through determining thermal distribution, operating time at specific currents (It-curves) and resistance (power loss) at interconnections by series of simulation analyses over virtual prototypes. Analyses methodology is based on initial model adjustment using physical tests data that allows to adjust virtual model to improve simulation accuracy. The study demonstrates an efficient combination of physical and virtual prototyping in product design development process.
