Abstract: One of the main problems that evolutionary robotics faces is the difficulty in obtaining complex phenotypes. This paper proposes a model for the evolution of autonomous agent control systems that attempts to solve this problem. The model is inspired by biology, where the environment plays a particularly important role in the development of the nervous system, as well as by the observation that organisms gradually become more complex in the course of the evolutionary process.
