Abstract: The influence of temperature (0-80oCJ on corrosion-electrochemical parameters of austenitic Cr14Mn15N and Cr18Mn12N stainless steels in 3.5 % NaCl has been studied by cyclic potentiodynamic method. The results obtained with chromium-manganese-nitrogen steels have been compared with those obtained with Cr18Ni9 steel under the same conditions of testing. It has been established that steels undergo pitting corrosion in 3.5 % NaCl as oxide and sulfide non-metal inclusions appear to be the preferable sites for pit initiation. The studies have shown a similar behavior of Cr18Mn12N and Cr18Ni9 steels in the pit initiation. The increase of temperature makes easy the development of this type of local corrosion. In respect to susceptibility for repassivation, the behavior of Cr18Mn12N and Cr14Mn15N steels are nearly equal. The influence of chemical composition and non-metal inclusions in the studied steels over their corrosion behavior in chloride medium has also been discussed.
