Abstract: The purpose of this article is to present a new approach for reduction of IGBT turn-on losses via the usage of a saturable choke with flat "F" characteristic of the magnetic core. The proposed circuit diagram is an improvement of the well known RLD circuit with snubber inductance. The operation of the diagram with saturable choke is described and an estimation of the reduced turn-on losses of the control semiconductor elements are given.
