Abstract: The magnetic stimulation of the surface dielectric barrier discharge at atmospheric pressure is substantially dif-ferent from cases related to the influence of external magnetic field on the characteristics of glow vacuum dis-charge and arcing at atmospheric pressure. The non-equilibrium nature of the surface dielectric barrier discharge determines a particular behaviour in permanent magnetic field stimulation. The use of rare-earth permanent magnets simplifies dramatically the design solutions. Surface dielectric barrier discharge depends on too many electrical and magnetic polarization effects of the dielectric barrier, which in turn determines a specific modifica-tion of its technological characteristics. Diode co-planar electrode systems are investigated in terms of magnetic stimulation and dimensional changing of the air gap in a relatively wide range.
