Title: The influence of an aluminum oxide coating on the cathode, on the ignition voltage of dc gas discharge Keywords: anodic aluminum oxide; DC gas discharge; oxide coating; plas Abstract: The aim of this work was to investigate the influence of an oxide coating on the cathode, on the ignition voltage of DC gas discharge. The experiments were performed in a prototype cylindrical plasma chemical reactor, with common anode and sectional aluminum cathodes, with different surface roughness. In the experiments performed, aluminum cathodes were pretreated, to form on their surface a dense non-porous oxide and nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO), with self-organized hexagonal nanopore array, with channel diameters from 5 to 35nm. The bottoms of the pores, on the porous AAO, are chemically dissolved before the experiments. The break points in the AAO on the surface of the cathodes and the resulting damage, caused by the plasma in the oxide layer are represented. Comparison of the gas discharge ignition voltages for different thicknesses and structures of the oxide layer was made. The surface morphology of the AAO coating on the cathodes was characterized by SEM, EDX.. References Issue
