Abstract: The work presents the results obtained from the study of corrosion behavior of two widely used low-carbon steels (St. 3 and KBC-290) in aqueous solutions of ammonium sulfate mineral fertilizer (1.0-40.%, 20oC) by gravimetric, potentiodynamic polarization and optical microscopic methods. It has been established that the corrosion rate grows two times by increasing the concentration from 1.0 to 40.0 % and by enhancement the temperature from 20 to 60 oC - 4 to 7 times. It has been shown that the two steels pass into a state of anodic passivity as the increase in the medium concentration makes easier this transition but the temperature rise makes it more difficult. Both steels develop a general nonuniform corrosion. The comparison of the parameters describing the behavior of the two steels shows that steel KBC has corrosion resistance two times higher than St.3 in the same conditions.
