Title: New attempt at plasma aided flame retardation in wood and cellulosic fibrous materials Keywords: phosphorus flame retardant, flammable porous material, plasm Abstract: The central subject of this investigation is the flame retardation of wood and cellulosic fibrous materials after plasma aided capillary impregnation by phosphorus and nitrogen flame-retardants. The functioning mechanism of phosphorus and nitrogen flame-retardants is revealed through the potentialities provided by the thermal analysis, namely the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The investigation is performed in the temperature range up to 600 0C, which, on one hand, reveals the mechanism of flame retardation through suppressing the flame combustion and aiding the carbonization, and, on the other hand, corresponds to the conditions of a developed fire after the flashover point. The effect of flame retardant consists in reducing chances of fire starting by providing increased resistance to ignition. Even if ignition does occur, flame retardants will act to delay the spread of flame, providing extra time at the early stages when the fire can References Issue
