Title: Facial Orientation Determination, Face and Emotion Recognition in 3D Space for Neurorehabilitation Applications
Keywords: 3D recognition, facial orientation, neurorehabilitation

Abstract: Adaptive and interactive mental engagement combined with positive emotional state is requirement for an optimal outcome of the neurorehabilitation process for patients with brain damage usually caused by traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke or brain diseases such as cancer, epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease. We propose a framework using an active multicamera system in 3D space for human gaze tracking and face orientation determination combined with 3D face and emotion recognition based on multiple kernel learning. This type of framework is suitable for being part of assistive medical system for neurorehabilitation of patients with TBI. The experiments show comparable recognition rate (79.91%) to similar algorithms recognizing the emotional states of the subjects.
