Abstract: ZigBee is one of the main standards for low-data-rate, short-range communications used in wireless sensor networks. The main advantages of this standard are mesh networking, low-power, low-complexity, reliability and operation on unlicensed frequency band, available Worldwide. In this paper is presented an approach to develop low-cost sensor nodes using an open-source hardware and software platforms, such as Arduino.
