Title: Micro-power AC-DC converter with multiple output voltage levels for piezoelectric energy harvesters
Keywords: electronic converters, energy harvesting, microsystems, piezoelectric generator, power management circuit, programmable circuits, PWM, supercapacitors

Abstract: This paper presents a micro-power AC-DC converter which provides four stabilized output voltages. For the AC-DC converter, a multilayer piezoelectric generator is used as an input AC voltage source, converting mechanical vibrations into electrical energy. To regulate the output voltage, an error amplifier is used, through which the voltage from the negative feedback, which has different depths for each output voltage value (1.2, 1.8, 2.5, or 3.3 V), is subtracted from a reference voltage. The resulting error voltage at the output of the amplifier is compared by an analog comparator with a triangular voltage from a multivibrator circuit. The pulse-width modulated (PWM) signal controls the operation of the transistors in the synchronous converter. The power dissipation within the power management circuit is below 50 μW, and the efficiency of the converter is higher than 60% for output power levels of up to 5 mW. The proposed micro-power converter is intended to be used for providing stable supply voltages to wearable medical electronic devices.
