Title: Dynamics and composition of flue gas PM and toxic PAH during oxidation of biomass-coal blended fuel
Keywords: -

Abstract: Biomass as zero-net CO2 emission solid biofuel is well accepted, but concerns still exist regarding the fuel chemical composition, its production, supply chain, storage and the emissions of a variety of pollutants [1-5]. At present, a comprehensive investigation was elaborated, aiming to experimentally measure: (a) the size distribution function of particulate matter (PM), sampled from the flue gases, generated during direct oxidation of biomass-coal blended mixtures; (b) the dynamics of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), extracted from the PMs and from the remaining gaseous phase of the PAHs, sampled from the flue gases right after the PM-Impactor's outlet. For that purpose, three types of solid biomass-coal blended fuel mixtures (paulownia/coal: 30 wt.%/70%; 10 wt.%/90%; 0 wt.%/100 wt.%) were oxidized in a laboratory-scale flow (tubular) reactor at: atmospheric pressure, temperature of 1225 K ±25, air flow rate of 10 l/min and initial fuel mass of 5.5 g.
