Title: AC Sweep Analysis in 50 and 60 Hz
Keywords: AC Sweep in 50 and 60 Hz, eddy-currents losses, heat losses, mechanical losses, proximity effect losses, reactive power losses, skin effect losses

Abstract: This paper performs a comparative analysis between the two basic AC power generation standards, European (50 Hz) and American (60 Hz). A historical review of the origins and development of electrical power over the years is provided. Starting from the invention of the galvanic battery by Alessandro Volta, passing through the invention of the first light bulb by Thomas Edison and focusing on other critical applications of DC power, it reaches the invention of the AC generator by Nikola Tesla and the subsequent historical applications of AC power in real life. In defining a sinusoidal power supply, the influence of the maximum value of the sinusoid in explicit form is substantiated, as well as the influence of frequency in implicit form. The latter influences in explicit form in the expressions for the resistances of the passive elements in the circuit. The basic mathematical and physical characteristics for quantitative measurement of electrical quantities (current, potential, voltage) are analyzed. They are represented by the average and effective values of the sinusoidal quantities. On this theoretical basis, a comparison between identical electrical devices operating at sinusoidal voltage supply frequencies of 50 and 60 Hz, respectively, is performed. An assessment is made and recommendations are given in which situations, in which frequency is more suitable for the efficient operation of the respective devices. The paper ends with concluding remarks on some basic knowledge to be acquired when using the same appliances in countries using AC power at 50 and 60 Hz, respectively.
