Abstract: In this paper a method is proposed for maximizing the dynamic range of active-RC and MOSFET-C filters, so that IC implementation constraints are satisfied and a given transfer function is realised. Both op amp generated noise and resistor thermal noise are taken into account in the calculation of dynamic range. By introducing a special transformation of variables, an almost-explicit solution of the dynamic range maximization problem is obtained. The optimal circuit is scaled and makes exhaustive use of the available capacitance.
