Title: Properties of Polymer Concrete Based on Unsaturated Polyester Resin Modified with Monoethanolamine
Keywords: polymer concrete, polyester resin, monoethanolamine

Abstract: Polymer concretes based on unsaturated polyester resin possess a number of advantages over silicate concretes, primarily mechanical strength, chemical resistance, lower water absorption, and increased technological effectiveness. However, the low adhesion of polymer concrete to silicate concrete, especially to wet concrete, limits the application of polymer concretes in prefabricated building constructions. One way of solving this problem is to make the polymer binder of polymer concretes hydrophilic by modifying it with cement slurry or with diethanolamine (DEA). DEA-modified polyester polymer concretes unfortunately possess not very high mechanical properties on account of possible degradation of the polyester binder at high DEA doses. Additional studies were carried out to establish whether it is possible to replace diethanolamine with another amine. Here we studied the possibility of using another organic amine – monoethanolamine – for the modification of the polyester matrix.
