Title: Design and Implementation of Fuzzy Two-Level Control
Keywords: energy efficiency, laboratory dryer, real time experimentati

Abstract: A method for the design of two-level Mamdani fuzzy logic controllers (FLCs) for nonlinear plants with time delay and model uncertainty is developed. The method is based on independent design of a basic and a supervisory FLC. The basic PI FLC ensures robust stability/performance of the closed loop system by using a modification of the Popov criterion. The supervisory FLC improves online in real time the performance of the fuzzy system via auto-tuning of the scaling factors of the basic FLC. The combined criteria for its design are restrictions on the system error, derivative of error, overshoot and control rate, all related also with the system energy efficiency. The method is applied for the control of the temperature in a laboratory dryer. The investigation of the closed loop system in MATLAB real time shows significant reduction of the settling time and the energy consumed.
