Title: On the Stress Calculation of the Uniform Strength Rotating Disks of Variable Thicknesses Keywords: finite element method (FEM), high-speed rotating disks, strength analysis, uniform stress distribution, variable thicknesses Abstract: In the present study, we consider homogeneously graded disks attached on a shaft to be a rotating machinery elements widely used at engineering applications. To ensure durability, performance and economic returns on industrial installations in the energetic systems, the strength characteristics of the structural elements must be well optimised. Because of rotating disks, an inverse problem is presented and namely it is in search of the appropriate cross-sectional geometry of the rotating discs with predefined conditions: for example, stress or displacement distribution, material, revolutions, which are capable of ensuring a minimum weight and uniform stress distribution in the radial direction of the rotating disc. The main objective is to investigate the influence of angular velocity and mechanical loading on the thickness cross-sectional function with the requirement of uniform strength by using analytical solution and finite element method. They are used two types of functions which describe the disk thickness: conical and exponentially varying. To verify the reliability of the results, the appropriate comparisons between the analytical and numerical solutions are done. Finally, the functions of the disk cross-section that fulfil the requirements in practice are presented. References
