Title: DC Link Capacitor Selection for Battery Powered Low Voltage 10 kW PMSM Drives

Abstract: The paper discusses issues related to the design of low-voltage PMSM drives. The power for the drive is provided by 48V batteries and is rated for up to 10kW. When designing the electronics for this application, the correct sizing of the capacitor bank is key. There are different methods for choosing the number and type of capacitors, and the article discusses an approach to optimize the capacitance of the capacitors depending on the load, in an application for bow-thrusters. The specifics of the application implies the possibility of reducing the volume of the electronics and in particular of the capacitor block, bearing in mind the fan-like nature of the load. A study of the value of the current through the capacitors, depending on the motor load and the type of modulation of the power transistors is presented.
