Title: Intelligent Control Systems for Energy Efficiency
Keywords: intelligent control, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms

Abstract: The improvement in energy efficiency is searched in the application of intelligent approaches employing fuzzy logic, neural-fuzzy structures, and genetic algorithms (GA). Experimental results of drying systems designed on the criterion of energy efficiency by analytical approaches in previous research are presented and used as initial data and for performance comparison. The main topics concern the design, the parameters optimisation and the approximation of various fuzzy logic controllers (FLC) for the temperature control in the dryer. A FLC on the principle of parallel distributed compensation (PDC) is developed and the necessary Takagi-Sugeno-plant model derived and validated. Model-free Sugeno PI FLC with single input and two inputs and single output are designed. Fuzzy adaptation mechanisms to the FLC are suggested on the principle of PDC with empirical and GA optimised parameters and a second level supervisor. A neuro-fuzzy approximation of a designed FLC is also presented.
