Title: Air permeability and moisture content of medical masks after wearing
Keywords: medical masks, air permeability, moisture content, wearing

Abstract: The paper presents results from an investigation of medical masks’ air permeability and moisture content after different wearing conditions and measurements. The properties of the masks (thickness, layers, mass per unit area, air permeability and moisture content) were experimentally evaluated. Two strategies for measuring the changes in the air permeability and the moisture content of the masks were tested: every 5 min for a period of one hour, using the same mask (Stage 1), and measurement directly after 60 min of wearing (Stage 2). The results showed that the first strategy gives more detailed information about the air permeability and moisture content change. The second strategy would be more suitable for prolonged measurements with the participation of people (two hours and more). An important conclusion is that the structural parameters of the masks should be known when evaluating the mask’s performance in different conditions.
