Title: The Role of Big Data in Intelligent Educational Platform: A Functional Architecture Keywords: big data, learning analytics, ontology technology Abstract: Nowadays, in the digital transformation era, big volumes of data are generated everywhere, including in the field of education, and the main questions that emerge are: what is the role of big data and data analytics in our contemporary educational system, and how does big data affect educational platforms. The paper aims to examine the role of big data in modern intelligent educational systems. For this purpose, it explores the recently published research to reveal the utilization of big data in education. Four different queries passed in Scopus scientific database are examined: “big data and education”, “big data and e-learning”, “big data and education and ontology”, and “big data and education and artificial intelligence”. After the results summarization, as a conclusion a functional architecture of an educational platform based on big data, which is constructed on six layers, is proposed. References Issue
