Abstract: Higher education institutions seem to be engaged in a reactive process instead of a proactive approach when considering inclusive education for sustainable development. This raises many questions regarding the effectiveness of different initiatives for digitalisation in education and the growing concerns associated with a broadening digital and economic divide. At every stage of the learning process, educational models remain very limited to specific goals and agendas that are driven by the fad of the moment and the needs of dated economic models without articulating a sustainable educational framework that we argue should be uttered within the concepts of inclusive education that integrates intercultural competencies, digital skills and the development of discipline-specific skills within a holistic educational context.
