Abstract: In the Bulgarian education system today, many schools teach children with a mother language other than the official one. Working in an intercultural educational process and in a multicultural environment is not only an educational process in an environment with more than one ethnicity. Teachers' skills and professionalism to educate ethnic minority children and to work with the community are not realized as a synergistic process that is a precursor to transforming the educational environment into a multicultural one. This article examines the issue of differences and similarities in intercultural and multicultural education in our country and provides recommendations for educational approaches in kindergarten and elementary school in a multicultural environment.
