Abstract: Wave propagation in a viscoelastic material is studied in this contribution. After postulating the wave equation and the stress-strain relationship, boundary, and initial conditions, the problem is approached using Laplace transform with respect to time. Viscosity is superimposed to linear elasticity through the linear Boltzmann-Volterra model. Analytical solution of the wave propagation in a deformable body generated by a transient load is discussed. The deformable-body is treated as a single-degree-of-freedom system. The contribution aims to shed light on the mathematical insight of the solution to the wave equation obtained based on the Laplace transform.
