Abstract: The focus of the study is set on a methodology validation for the acoustics assessment of railway wheels. Instead of physical prototyping, used in practice, this methodology is based on virtual prototyping and provides a fast and efficient way to evaluate in detail design parameters' influence over acoustics behavior. An existing sample design of a railway wheel is evaluated through numerical analyses, performed over a built virtual prototype. Also, test field measurements are performed by a certified laboratory over the same railway wheel sample. Finally, the methodology compliance with physical test data is checked through a comparison of virtual prototyping results to physical test results.
