Title: Study of the Compressed Natural Gas Influence on the Combustion Characteristics of a Diesel Dual-Fuel Engine
Keywords: Diesel dual-fuel engine, CNG, Combustion characteristics

Abstract: The application of a gas-diesel duty cycle is an effective method to increase the homogenization of the fuel mixture of diesel combustion engines and improve their ecological performance. Compressed natural gas (CNG) is one of the most suitable fuels for organizing a diesel dual-fuel cycle. The operation of the diesel engine in dual-fuel mode with CNG takes to changes in the burn process and combustion characteristics of the engine. These changes are dictated by the physicochemical properties of methane and the specific features of the combustion process in diesel engines. This article presents an experimental investigation of the CNG mass fraction influence upon the combustion characteristic of a single-cylinder diesel engine operated in dual-fuel mode. The analysis and quantification of the CNG mass fraction influence upon: cylinder pressure; in-cylinder pressure rise rate; cylinder temperature; heat release; heat release rate and combustion phases duration are based on computer pro
