Title: The Importance of the Initial Diameter on the Mechanical Properties of Steel Rods after Accelerated Corrosion Test Keywords: Accelerated Corrosion Test; S235JR steel rod Abstract: Test pieces for tensile testing with diameters of 6 and 10 mm were made by lathe machining using a 12 mm in diameter S235JR steel rod as the initial material. They were subjected to accelerated corrosion for 52 days by means of an alternate immersion test in salt solution (AIT). The test pieces were then cleaned and tensile tested. The obtained stress-strain curves were compared and analyzed. The study examines the importance of the initial diameter for the deterioration in the strength and deformability of materials due to corrosion. A method for determining the reduced diameter caused by corrosion without geometric or weight measurements is proposed. This method is suitable for different diameters without further experiments.
