Title: Fused deposition modeling: From idea to physical part

Abstract: Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies have experienced significant growth during the last years mainly due to their new design possibilities. A technology commonly used in AM is the extrusion-based Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM). Principally, virtual model data are segmented into a series of 2D cross sections of a finite thickness. These cross sections are successively built on top of each other to form the physical part. In this article, the steps necessary are shown. The main process parameters are introduced, mapped, and explained to print a stable and accurate build. Fields of research are pointed out.
