Абстракт: Employment in the knowledge-based economy is characterised by increasing demand for more highly-skilled workers. Changes in technology, and particularly the advent of information technologies, are making educated and skilled labour more valuable, enhancing the knowledge distribution power of the economy through collaborative networks and the diffusion of technology; and providing the enabling conditions for organisational change at the firmlevel to maximise the benefits of technology for productivity. The dynamic economic changes require new and specific competencies and skills. Along with the growing influence of highly-qualified workers, the European Union (EU) anticipates the need of further increase of the number of students and post-graduate students in technical specialties, researchers and employed in high-tech sectors of the economy. Education, research, technological development and innovation are the basis for achieving a sustainable economic growth and competitiveness.
