Abstract: Investigation results are presented for determination of the steady state response of an iron-cored winding under AC mode of operation. Both power losses Pw in the copper coil volume and Pc in the ferromagnetic core volume are members of the thermal equivalent scheme. The thermal resistance R12 between the winding and the core was a special item of the analysis provided. The value of R12 influence on the steady state temperature rise of the winding and the core is discussed while the ratio between Pw and Pc was varied. Numerical data calculation values are related to a winding, which is part of a standard EI 120x40 transformer type configuration. These data are compared with results obtained experimentally.
