Abstract: Investigating road traffic accidents includes complex solutions to complicated and interrelated engineering tasks from various fields implementing applied mechanics, mathematics, function, structure and operation of vehicles and their maintenance, etc. The main purpose of this paper is to establish the mechanism of traffic accident occurrence, as well as to clarify the accident contributing factors determining it. The findings of the study are based on complex mathematical calculations, analysis and processing of huge volume of data. They are characterized with high reliability, credibility and representativeness, which serves as а basis for decision making in legal reasoning. The different nature of information sources, in turn, determines the complexity of information tasks, solved in the study. Hence, the significance of automated data processing related to the investigation of car crashes becomes vital.
